'Sir Patrick Moore' portrait

Sir Patrick Moore portrait (2014)

A4 in size - Inks, pencils, chalk and brick patterned wrapping paper.

This comical Sir Patrick Moore portrait is part of a Four Scientists series I illustrated as commission back in 2014. I remember Sir Patrick fondly from my childhood, blabbering excitedly about space on his The Sky At Night Show, and then as the bizarre Games Master in the Channel 4 show of the same name. I also remember him playing the xylophone with extraordinary skill and the fact my Dad loathed him and called him a 'fascist' whenever he appeared on the TV (to be fair he was a bit of a fascist). But my childhood memories always painted him as this rather doddery human Humpty Dumpty - he really was like a huge egg with a monocle. Anyway, from the off I wanted to go with that childhood Humpty Dumpty memory and have some kind of space surveillance reference in it too (cue the satellite dish coming out of the side of his head and the telescope). I also got to use my favourite brick patterned wrapping paper, which also features in my Get Carter and Mark E Smith portraits (waste not, want not!).
