I'll be honest, until Danny Boyle was named as Artistic Director for the London 2012 Olympics, I had no idea he was born and bred in Manchester. Trainspotting came out when I was a student at the University of Manchester in the mid 90's and I'm sure many people informed me he was from the city, but my brain didn't register back then. Danny was the eighth or ninth portrait I completed as part of my Manchester Icons series and it's one of my favourites. He's also one of my favourite current British film directors - who doesn't like Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire etc? Actually, he's never really made a duff film. There's a couple of iffy ones, but still, there should be more Danny Boyle portraits.
