One of my earlier Manchester Icons portraits, this illustration of Ian Brown mixes his cocky wide eyed stare with a play on the old 'King Monkey' story (look it up if you've not heard it before, it's very titillating). It's one of my first attempts with skin toned Copic pens and it came out quite well. I like the simplicity of the gorilla costume too, as I also tried some more textured collage stuff for the suit but it didn't sit right. I reckon Ian Brown is one if the first three or four people think of when you mention the words Manchester and music side by side, hence him being one of the first in the series. When I get around to exhibiting all of them together somewhere I'm going to make sure he gets an invite.
