I grew up loving Les Dawson. My main memories are of him hosting Blankety Blank, but I loved his sketch show too. As an adult I loved his wordplay and his ridiculously descriptive monologues, but as a child it was all about his big, pudgy, eternally chucklesome face. Just one gurn from Les and I'd be in stitches as a nipper. To this day his face always makes me smile, he wasa human barrel of mirth. I loved doing this portrait and I purposefully placed the stone wall dicky bow tie collage alongside the glittery suit, just to give a nod to those working class routes and his ascent into the wonderful world of showbiz. He's a true comedy icon if ever there was one.
