I loved lots of poppy psychedelic music and art from a young age, but it wasn't until Love's 'Forever Changes' came into my life in 1993 that I really fell in love with all things psychedelic. That album is still my favourite album of all time. I bought it after hearing a few Liverpool bands rave about it and I absolutely played it to death. I'd quote lyrics to mates, play it on their stereos and push it on strangers like I was a new religeous convert desperate to spread the word. I couldn't believe I hadn't heard it until the age of 17, but I definitely made up for it and years later after hearing it thousands of times I still love it just as much as the first time I heard it. That, for me, is the true testament of a great album, something you can play and play and play and never tire of. Anyway, when it came to doing this new collection of Psychedelic Icon portraits, Arthur Lee was one of the names at the top of the list. It took me months to pluck up the courage to take it on but it's one of my all time favourites and I think it captures him well. There's a nod to one of Love's early singles, Orange Skies (from their Da Capo album) in the background and a mash-up of marbling and woven card on his shirt. A3 prints of the portrait are also available in a white 20 x 16" mount and/or framed in a 20 x 16" black frame.
