This portrait was a commission I finished in March this year. Even though I'm a Liverpool fan (stop booing) I've always had a secret admiration for Eric. He changed the Premier League in the 90's with his footballing flair, Gallic passion and seagull poetry. He's a true icon of the modern game - just one mention of his name and you immediately picture him strutting around the pitch, collar turned up, a little bit of wizardry ready to be unleashed (or maybe a kung fu kick, a wonder goal or another moment of hot tempered madness). He was a true entertainer. Finding the right source photo was key for me with this illustration as there seem to be hundreds of illustrations of him half turned away, surname emblazoned across the back of his shirt. I wanted something a bit different and I think this pose displays his cocky / self assured demeanour nicely.
