I guess sharing the lead character's surname was always going to mean I saw this classic 70's British gangland thriller fairly early in life. As with most of my 'stories' I can't remember much, but it was late night, everyone in the house was in bed, I was about 14 and it blew my mind. It's still one of my all time favourite British films. I reckon it's probably Michael Caine's greatest ever performance too. Anyway, the first thing I thought of when approaching this portrait was, 'I want the background to be a huge red brick wall', my next thought was I want him 'wiv 'iz shootah'. It ended up being quite a tricky bugger but it's one of my favourite portraits and it's going up on my front room wall this month until the day some big man (in bad shape) makes me an offer I can't refuse.
