I've been a big fan of Paul Weller's ever since I was a toddler singing along to albums by The Jam in my Dad's car. As a teen I had all The Jam albums on vinyl (along with a couple of the more 'accessible' Style Council 12"s like 'Walls Come Tumbling Down!' and 'Shout To The Top!'), and I was overjoyed when he released his solo stuff in the early 90's. I think he's one of Britain's best ever songwriters, and whilst I was never a huge Style Council fan I think he's one of the country's most consistently brilliant songwriters too. So, when the opportunity arose to do a Weller commission piece last year I was excited. The project was delayed for a few months but I finally got into it in December '17 and finally finished it earlier this month. The idea was to do a Triptych and feature Weller in The Jam, The Style Council and now. I also wanted to pay homage to The Jam's debut album, 'In The City' (it turned 40 last year) as it marked the beginning of Weller's musical journey. That explains the tiled background. The piece has had some great feedback since I finished it and is now available as a limited edition A4 print.
