Ye Gods (2018)
A3 in size - Magazine / book collage.
Only available as an original piece (on mountboard, in a white mount and a black frame).
Over the past few months I've been stockpiling second hand books that look at the universe, space travel and things like Aztec, Inca and Aegean myths and artifacts. I love the idea of blending science fiction with ancient mythology and creating something other-worldly. That was my catalyst for creating, Ye Gods. When I was hunting all the individual cuttings for this piece I think there were bits of TV shows like Lost and The Leftovers swimming around, as well as films like Prometheus and Dune. But in truth some of the images have just been stuck in my head since I first saw them, and wouldn't budge until I got to work. The spacey background was made by softly spraying silver paint onto black mountboard. The collage was finished around the same time I was exhibiting my Psych Icons portraits and some of the psychedelic patterns and images I had spinning around have definitely infiltrated their way into the final collage. 50% or 60% of the process with my larger collages is spent hunting down the right pieces and just letting lots of images float around in my head for awhile before ideas start slotting together. This was certainly the case with Ye Gods, and I'm really happy with the finished piece.
